Celebrities are standing their ground when it comes to the verdict in George Zimmerman‘s trial.
The case against Zimmerman began in June of 2013. The 28-year-old neighborhood watch coordinator in Sanford, Florida shot and killed Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old high school student.
On July 13th, 2013, George Zimmerman was acquitted of both second-degree murder and manslaughter. This has increased debates on racism, self-defense, and our judicial system. Many people have been speaking out and taking action on the matter. Celebrities have been taking action as well. Stevie Wonder has intentions on abolishing the “Stand Your Ground” law that helped the jurors lead to the verdict of George Zimmerman. He plans on boycotting in the states that have the law and he wants others to do the same.
According to the HuffingtonPost.com and April Ryan, many other big-name celebrities agree with Stevie and they are boycotting as well. Rappers such as Jay-Z, Kanye West, Wale, and Young Jeezy are supporting the movement by boycotting. Famous R&B artists that are helping out are Trey Songz, Joe, Keyshia Cole, Alicia Keys, and Usher.
Yet, since being posted, it seems like the “Legends Of The Summer” tour at Sun Life Stadium on August 16 will continue to take place.
This will hopefully gain more supporters and create change.
