64-year-old Glenn Ford free after serving 30 years on Death Row

TheSource.com, The SourceAfter serving 30 years on death row for a crime he didn’t commit, 64-year-old Glenn Ford finally walks free.

My sons .. when I left, were babies,” Ford told reporters upon being released on Tuesday. “Now they grown men with babies,” he added.

Ford was released from Louisiana’s State Penitentiary in Angola where he had been an inmate since March of 1985.

Ford was convicted of first-degree murder and subsequently sentenced to death by electrocution by an all-white jury that found him guilty in both the burglary and murder of Isadore Rozeman

When asked if he harbors any resentment toward having spent 30 years of his life in prison, Ford replied, “Yeah, because I was locked up for almost 30 years for something I didn’t do. 30 years of my life, if not all of it, I can’t go back.”

According to CNN, new information confirmed what Ford had said three decades ago: that he wasn’t involved in the murder of Isadore Rozeman on November 5, 1983 and wasn’t at the crime of the scene.

We are very pleased to see Glenn Ford finally exonerated and we are particularly grateful that the prosecution and the court moved ahead so decisively to set Mr. Ford free,” said Ford’s attorneys Gary Clements and Aaron Novod.

Having been on death row since 1984, Ford is one of the longest-serving death row prisoners in the country.

Prior to Ford’s release, Amnesty International USA senior campaigner Thenjiwe Tameika McHarris released a statement saying, “Glenn Ford is living proof of just how flawed our justice system truly is. We are moved that Mr. Ford, an African-American man convicted by an all-white jury, will be able to leave death row a survivor.”
