Chadwick Boseman, godfather, soul, james brown, get on up

Everyone can’t stop talking about Andre 3000′s role as Jimi Hendrix and that’s understood. But don’t sleep on the new James Brown’s biopic, which is set for an August 1st release date. The film has an array of celebrity appearances, including Viola Davis playing Brown’s mother, Chadwick Boseman (played Jackie Robinson in 42) as the Godfather of Soul himself as well as Craig Robinson as Maceo Parker and Jill Scott as Mr. Brown’s second wife, Deidre “Deedee” Jenkins.

The film is being produced by Mick Jagger and Brian Grazer and directed by Tate Taylor (creator of The Help). With an all-star cast this powerful, hopes are very high. Biopics are always a tricky thing to pull off, but when done right, can educate and please people in a monumental way. Checkout the first official movie trailer for the film, below.
