The Handbook For An Unpredictable Life is written by Rosie Perez.

If you thought that you knew Rosie…you have no idea. The book is based on her life as she overcame adversity from a child to her adult years and she was born in Brooklyn, NY. While reading the book, she revealed deep dark secrets like she was put in a group home when she was three, how her mother was diagnosed with schizophrenia and also she was diagnosed with PTSD.

Although she loved her mother, she was raised by her aunt, whom she deeply loved. Before I read the book, I knew of Rosie Perez from movies like Do The Right Thing and White Men Can’t Jump, being a dancer on Soul Train and choreographer of In Living Color but when I read the book, I got a chance to get to know the real Rosie Perez. Facts that people don’t know about Ms. Perez is that she is a avid fan of both hip hop and boxing.

She is the true example of what it is like to start from the bottom and not having regrets about it and achieving her goals as a Latina woman. She revealed that many people didn’t like her on the set of In Living Color because she was being too hard but she was hard for a reason. She tells the story of a little girl with big dreams as she escapes the streets and achieves her dreams by becoming an actress & dancer.

After reading her book, I would rate it five stars and would recommend people to read it. This is one book, I could read over and over again because the moral lesson of this book is that she was able to be herself without losing herself. She also had some bumps in the road as she was getting her career started. She was able to discover the careers of Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Ann Inaba and bonded a close friendship with late rappers Heavy D and 2Pac. She became the first Latina women to pave the way for other Latina women to pursue their dreams as dancers & actors like Sofia Vergara, of course Jennifer Lopez and Salma Hayek.

Her book is in stores now and available online. You could also follow Ms. Perez on Twitter at @rosieperezbklyn and on Instagram @rosieperezbrooklyn.
