As if New York needed another public transportation incident, today we’ve learned about an alleged assault on an MTA employee that occurred yesterday morning. According to the New York Post, at around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, 19-year-old Natasha Lawson boarded the bus at Troy Avenue and Kings Highway. Lawson, who is three months pregnant, was $1.75 short for her fare and denied entry on to the bus by MTA bus driver, Jenny Castillo.
After a failed attempt to negotiate a ride halfway to her destination, Lawson reportedly proceeded to the back of the bus anyway. She then allegedly harassed several elderly straphangers and was demanded off the bus by Castillo. That’s when Lawson allegedly punched, scratched and pulled the hair of the 36-year-old bus driver until she was restrained by other straphangers until the police arrived. Castillo suffered minor injuries and was treated at Beth Israel Hospital, were Lawson was also seen for evaluation.
This incident occurred only two days after a 14-year-old male was arrested for shooting and killing an innocent bystander on the B15 bus in the Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn.
