FAMU HazingJustice is being served in a hazing death case.

A Florida judge handed down a sentence to the first person to face jail time in the hazing death of a FAMU drum major.

Judge Marc Lubet sentenced Jessie Baskin to 51 weeks in the county jail, five years of probation and 300 hours of community service. The sentencing comes after Baskin was accused of participating in the beating death of 26-year-old Robert Champion in November 2011.

Baskin was among fifteen other former band members who were charged with manslaughter and hazing in Champion’s death.

Seven of them have been sentenced to combinations of probation and community service. Another of the accused, 25-year-old Caleb Jackson, has pleaded no contest to manslaughter and is awaiting sentencing.
