The Living Legend links with rock n’ roll great on new LP

Recently, multi-platinum rapper, LL Cool J, spoke with CNN’s Pier’s Morgan about collaborating with
rock icon, Van Halen. The collaborative track appears on LL’s latest album, Authentic. The celebrated
rapper continues his creative prowess while working simultaneously on a cache of creative endeavors.

Even though the legendary rapper has invested over twenty years into his craft, he did not have a
personal relationship with the acclaimed guitarist. The power of music motivated LL to reach out to
Eddie. “I reached out to Eddie. I had an idea about doing, you know, a song that had some Rock guitar
on it. I feel like Eddie’s the best in the world. I reached out to him. I was hopeful; I had my fingers
crossed that he would be willing to work with me. He came by the studio. I played the demo for him. He
said, you know, let’s rock and roll,” matter-of-factly states LL.

Eddie explains, “He played me some of the songs. It was such a diverse record that—when I got the
call, it was such a left of center thing, that I went, ‘What the hell would he want with me?’ But I agreed
to meet with him.” Eventually, LL Cool J’s enthusiasm and assorted array of tracks would solidify the
collaboration from Eddie Van Halen.

“Not Leaving You Tonight,” boats an unconventional format that delivers a vocal delivery amid a ripping
guitar solo. Fitz & The Tantrums are also featured on the track. Authentic, the 14th studio album from
the man that ladies love was released on April 30th.
