The UCONN Huskies men’s basketball team defeated the Kentucky Wildcats 60-54 on Monday and completed its journey to the NCAA National Championship becoming the first #7 seed to secure a championship. The school in returned celebrated by destroying the town of Storrs, Conn.
The students of UCONN took to the streets after the buzzer was sounded. The celebration then turned in a full-scale riot which included flipped cars, fire works, a barn fire, broken store glasses and fallen light poles. One group went as far as damaging a school building.
By 2 a.m., campus police had reported more than 30 arrests, and, according to school spokesman Tom Breen there are more arrests expected today.
With all the mayhem that happened, there were no reports of any students or fans getting hurt. Surprisingly UCONN police said they were pleased with the way campus and students handled its second national championship in four years.
What we learned here is cutting down the nets is no longer the traditional way schools celebrate after a team win but destroying everything in sight and causing damage to your university and campus.
