AND1 Adds Teams From NBA Veteran Stephen Jackson, Hip Hop Icon Juelz Santana To Summer Remix Tournament

The Source Magazine Also Joins The Entertainment Lineup For $100,000 Winner-Take-All signature event, August 29-September 1 at The Liacouras Center at Temple University

NEW YORK: August 14, 2013 – The AND1 apparel and sneaker brand and event partner IMG Worldwide, the global sports, fashion and media company, today announced additional participants and entertainment partners for the inaugural 12-team, $100,000, winner-take-all Summer Remix Tournament, the largest cash prize in streetball history. The event will be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University during Labor Day Weekend (August 29 – September 1).

Thirteen year NBA veteran Stephen Jackson’s OG Trill Squad, featuring NBA players Wilson Chandler and Marcus Thorton, won the Tournament of the Stars in Louisiana this past weekend and will be competing at the event. In addition, Skull Gang, a team assembled by hip-hop icon Juelz Santana has been added. Santana, who will perform before his team takes the floor, joins a trio of music legends with a passion for basketball in Michael Bivins, Jermaine Dupri and Rico Love, who will all captain or coach teams which will be comprised of several pro players, as well as some of the most accomplished individual basketball and streetball talents in the world.

Born and raised LaRon James, young Juelz Santana began his journey like many Harlem teens: the new kid on the block. At 15, Juelz put together the group Draft Pick with a neighborhood friend. The duo was picked up by Priority Records, but it wasn’t long until Santana was introduced through his cousin to fellow Harlem rapper Cam’ron. Over the past few years, the hip-hop game has watched Juelz Santana become one of its brightest stars, its biggest personalities, and its finest MCs.

The latest additions will join the previously announced streetball teams led by NBA Legend Shawn Kemp, and Indiana Pacers star and AND1 athlete Lance Stephenson, who will captain and coach a team of players selected from Indianapolis-area Pro AM League.

The Source Magazine will present the best of their Unsigned Hype Artists at this year’s AND1 Summer Remix. The Source is responsible for many iconic music and lifestyle brands, including its Unsigned Hype column. With each and every issue, the infamous Unsigned Hype section of The Source Magazine is highly coveted and highly competitive. The Source has helped to discover Hip-Hop legends such as Notorious B.I.G., Common, Eminem, among others and has been successful in predicting the success of buzzing acts like Macklemore, Joey Bads$$, & more.

“The Source Magazine and our well-known ‘Unsigned Hype’ is excited, set, and ready to go with AND1 for the inaugural AND1 Summer Remix,” said Owner/Publisher L. Londell McMillan (@LondellMcMillan). “When you think of popular culture and lifestyle, AND1 has been a major brand over the years and we are very pleased to be partnering with the brand for this event. This will be a true celebration of Hip-Hop lifestyle to the fullest in both basketball and music.”

In addition “elite dunkers” Justin Darlington, known as “Jus Fly,” who won the 2012 Nike World Basketball Festival Dunk Contest in Washington, D.C.; Guy Dupuy, a 6-foot-3, 26-year old star from France is known as “The Best Dunker In The World,”; Brandon “Werm” Lacue the former winner of the Sprite Slam-Dunk Showdown; Haneef Munir, known by the nickname of “Young Hollywood”; and former Globetrotter star Chris Staples, better known as “Hoopstar”; will also compete with others for an additional $10,000 winner take all prize.

AND1 previously announced that some of the most accomplished deejays in the music industry, including DJ Diamond Kuts, DJ RL and DJ Johnny V, plus special guest DJ Aktive will provide the soundtrack for the Summer Remix Tournament events in Philadelphia.
