H&M and Alexander Wang have just riled up a few feathers in the fashion world.
The first post on Alexander Wang’s Instagram account had many of his fans hitting him with the surprise-eyed emoji last night. With a mini trailer that looked inspired by a basketball game, the beloved New York-based fashion designer/ creative director announced his upcoming collaboration with popular retail chain H&M.
“I am honoured to be a part of H&M’s designer collaborations,” Wang said this morning. “The work with their team is an exciting, fun process. They are very open to pushing boundaries and to set a platform for creativity. This will be a great way for a wider audience to experience elements of the Alexander Wang brand and lifestyle.”– Vogue
Based on the trailer, we can expect the collection to go out on November 6th in stores & online, being that the scoreboard read “Wang x H&M, 11:06.” The anticipated collection will include a variety of styles for both men & women, as well as an assortment of accessories at 250 H&M stores worldwide.
Coachella-goers were surprised at midnight when Wang announced the collection at his exclusive, invite-only #ALEXANDERWANGxHM event, which went on until the early morning. DJ’s Jesse Marco, Major Lazer & Just Blaze spun a few hits at the event, while the lovely Australian rapper Iggy Azalea performed for the crowd.
“We’ve always liked Alexander’s designs,” explained H&M’s creative advisor, Margareta van den Bosch. “He’s very contemporary. It’s very young, but it’s also things that can be worn by any age because of his influences in tailoring and sport. He’s very much today.” – Style
H&M is no stranger to collaborations, as the Swedish brand has hooked up with Maison Martin Margiela, Versace, Isabel Marant & more in the past to create timeless collections that were all big hits in stores. The confetti-filled event was a great way to kick things off, and we’re sure once his collection is released this Fall, it won’t be available too long afterwards.
Stay tuned for more info on the Alexander Wang x H&M collaboration, with a lookbook that’s soon to follow.
