In 1979 the American Medical Association sought a court injunction to keep Medicare payments to doctors under wraps. Last year, a federal judge vacated the injunction and the cockroaches started scuttling.
Funny, these doctors were spending public money, but didn’t want the public to know how much they were earning. Now we know why.
The numbers that had been hidden from the public were finally seeing the light of day. What they reveal as to how much doctors have been making off of us is frightening.
This is what happens when a group operates with no oversight:
Out of 855,000 doctors that take Medicare, 344 made $3 million in one year each ($1.5 billion total)
28 out of the top 100 earning doctors were in Florida (the hell’s wrong with this state?)
Eye docs made more than anyone and 151 eye doctors made $658 million altogether
One eye doctor, Salomen Melgen, made $20.8 million in 2012
