Everyone and their mother is buzzing about Kendrick Lamar’s statement of being “the king of New York;” Phil Jackson is one of the first to respond.
Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Big Sean’s throw-away track “Control (HOF),” has sparked praise in his lyrical skills as well as a demand for one of New York’s finest to reclaim the hometown crown.
Kendrick stated,
“Who the fuck y’all thought it’s supposed to be?[directing at opposing opinions towards Kendrick’s claim to be the king of New York] If Phil Jackson came back, still no coachin’ me”
Well, there’s a fine line between the meaning of coaching and mentoring according to one of NBA’s greatest coaches of all time; Phil Jackson.
Phil wisely responded to Kendrick via Twitter stating:
@kendricklamar it’s okay to be cocky and sure, but we all need somebody to lean on. Let’s just call it mentoring.

I guess Phil is saying there’s always someone to look up to even if you truly believe you’re the king of both coasts. We’ll see if there’s any response to Kendrick’s lyrical attack because he doesn’t need to explain anything. Hit the link below if you haven’t heard the track yet.
