The King will not become the President

Last week LeBron James shared with ESPN that he was interested in becoming the President of the National Basketball Player’s Association. Today he has announced that he is no longer seeking to become the President of the NBPA. With Derek Fisher’s term as President ending at the end of the summer there will be a vacancy at that and numerous positions.

Right now President Derek Fisher and former head Billy Hunter are in a legal battle over Hunter’s firing. Hunter was fired over misusing the union’s money. This legal battle ultimately lead LeBron to lose interest in running for President. LeBron had this to say about his decision;

“I just the think the union is going backwards and it’s not in a good place right now,” James said last week. “I think my voice could be huge in that situation. But I’m not sure I have the time to do it but it’s something I’m going to think about with my team and go from there. But I think we all can agree there’s been a lot of transition in our union in the last couple of years. If it’s not me in that seat then I hope it’s someone who is comfortable with it and can do the job.”

What will LeBron do now that he won’t be running for NBPA President? He will most likely support James Jones’ run as President. James Jones is currently the treasurer of the union.
