The Source hit’s DC’s eco-friendly festival and get’s the scoop on everything that makes this festival run!

In the second year of the  Broccoli City Festival, the bar was raised. High.

With the explosion of tons of midsize festivals in the nation, there are few of them that actually push the envelope and continue to stay as organic (pun intended) as possible. Continuing with the theme of promoting a greener lifestyle while meshing with hip hop culture, Broccoli City Festival managed to up the ante this year and give DC something special.

The mixture of blending hip hop culture with the urban community, while promoting a more eco-friendly lifestyle was a match made in heaven and judging by the turn out, greatly appreciated. This year the festival took place at St. Elizabeth Gateway Pavilion located in the southeast region of D.C and co-host Scooty couldn’t have said it better, “The area needed an event like this.”

The “Earth Day” festival, featured an array of different activities and vendors from free Nike Training classes, organic smoothie stands to even a healthy cooking show. 5,000 attendees, experienced a wealth of activities and got educated on everything green by “health-gurus.”

Now musically, the scene was a sheer delight for festival-goers attending the event. The festival featured a mix of talent from rap titans Just Blaze and Cam’ron to rising stars in Sango and Goldlink. The multiplicity of different artists and sounds was a testament to the concert itself. This was a festival for the people by the people.

Did I forgot to mention, Cam’ron and Just Blaze shared the stage together? Epic.

At the end of the day, the Broccoli City team put on for the Chocolate City and delivered a great event with an even greater message. Now, if you didn’t attend the event in DC (shame on you) no worries, the festival is going on tour and will be hitting the LA scene on May 3rd.

Source caught up with Just Blaze, Cam’ron and local DJ Jerome Baker, to talk about sustainability and implementing Eco-friendly initiatives among their respective communities.
