A police officer’s job is to keep the peace, but sometimes doing their duty as police officers don’t go as planned.
And in the case of Georgetown police officer, George Bermudez, when Vandergrift High School girl’s soccer team pulled off a win to win the University Interscholastic League championship over the weekend things got a little out of control.
If you’ve ever been to a high school or college championship game it’s standard for students and fans to storm the field when the game is over to celebrate the big win.
These festivities weren’t going down on officer George Bermudez’s time and his strategy to stop the stormers was to trip them as they approached the field. For Bermudez the method wasn’t successful as fans were storming the field in the hundreds but he was able to trip one fan which was enough for fans to cry foul on the move.
According to KXAN‘s Lindsay Bramson, the Georgetown Police Department is looking into the situation with their own investigation. Until they can make a decision Bermudez will be placed on paid administrative leave.
