nicki teaseIt’s impossible to deny the encroaching megaton bomb that Nicki Minaj is preparing to drop on the game. The days of the bright pink hair, rolling on the beach, while her nun entourage sashay behind are long gone. Stripped down to only the bare essentials of hip hop, she has turned a new leaf, well perhaps an old one, separating herself from the pop past that helped her become a crossover hit. This comes with a brand new attitude, one that is quite confrontational and unafraid (take a look at her “Looking Ass N*gga” video).

Earlier this week, Nicki sat down with MTV for a short interview, where she discussed this change. Not only has she become more confident, but she states that categorizing her as “female ” rapper is wrong. Ms. Minaj sees herself as rapper, plain and simple.

“I’ve worked with the greats and I’ve held my own with the greats and they respect me, so I should respect myself enough to see myself the same way they see themselves.”

Nicki goes on to thank everyone who has helped her reach this point in her career, so don’t think she is ungrateful. What do you think? Is the term female rapper outdated?
