The issues surrounding college athletes and the NCAA are far from a secret but after UConn guard Shabazz Napier told reporters he goes to bed “starving” because he can’t afford food, it became a national topic and point of debate. Since then the NCAA has implemented a new policy that allows for “unlimited meals” for athletes.
Today however reports surfaced that FSU quarterback Jameis Winston was issued a citation for shoplifting crab legs from a local Publix supermarket and it’s open the debate up once again. In fact a fellow FSU athlete, a former Seminoles wide receiver/defensive back turned basketball player named Marquez White took to his Twitter account to say that FSU was giving them one meal a day and canceled dinner due to finals week.
Of course the fact that Winston allegedly shoplifted crab legs as opposed to a loaf of bread makes it hard to sympathize but White’s allegations are serious and something clearly needs to be done.
