Oklahoma City newspaper decides it’s a good idea to slam their superstar..

Kevin Durant, Tony Allen, Thunder, Grizzlies, Oklahoma CityKevin Durant is one of the most humble superstars in NBA history. He has done countless hours of community service for Oklahoma City and throughout the NBA. Durant is also having his best season so far and will be announced as the 2014 NBA Most Valuable Player within the next couple of weeks.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are down 3-2 in the series against the Memphis Grizzlies in large part to the Grizzlies defense. Tony Allen has done an excellent job defending the best scorer in the league and he has bothered Durant’s offensive performance and efficiency throughout the series. The media outside of Oklahoma City has been pretty tough on Durant and rightfully so, but we are sure Durant didn’t expect to see this when he took a look at the newspaper this morning.

Mr. Unreliable? The player that averaged 32 ppg, seven rebounds and five assists while shooting over 50% from the field is unreliable? The star that carried the team throughout the entire season with historic and record breaking performances? The same Durant that carried the Thunder in January when his running mate Russell Westbrook was out? The “unreliable” Durant that led this Thunder squad to the 2 seed in one of the most challenging Western Conferences in NBA history?

It seems that this newspaper is trying to create shock value with this ridiculous headline. Or maybe they have short term memory as they bash their superstar. Durant is having a tough series against the Grizzlies, but it is irresponsible to kick the hometown superstar when he is down. It’s also not a great idea to take shots at your superstar with his free agency approaching in 2016.

Durant’s mom and brother weren’t happy about the newspaper’s feature either.

Durant will need to bring it tonight in Memphis with his team down 3-2 in the series. The crucial Game 6 between the Grizzlies and Thunder is tonight at 8 PM ET on TNT.
