Michael Jordan, oh he of most potent sneakers, is releasing a new book. The magic phrase? He believes he was a racist against white people very early in his basketball career.
Is Mike trying to Be Like Sterling and capitalize on all the NBA/racism chatter to move product? Maybe. But if a white girl called you the n-bomb when you were a kid you’d probably chuck a soda can at her face and be racist against white people too.
Roland Lazenby, the ghost writer of Jordan’s book says that in the days of Mike’s great-grandfather, Dawson Jordan, North Carolina was damn near a headquarters for KKK activities. Prominent members were so involved in municipal activities he likened them to a ‘chamber of commerce’-type organization.
In a hotbed of civil unrest and ruthless racism, you can understand where His Airness is coming from, even if you agree to disagree with the younger, impressionable version of himself.
