The force is strong with this one.

James HaggertyJames Haggerty might just be the biggest Star Wars fan of all time — and his latest creation proves it. Using 65,534 staples, the New York City artist created three 40 X 32 inch Star Wars-themed mosaics. Featuring super realistic depictions of Darth Vader, C-3Po, and Greedo, which required 10,469, 21,458 and 33,580 staples respectively, Haggerty’s work is highly detailed and the culmination of a very meticulous process.

Using a paint board as a backdrop, the 40-year-old artist punches thousands of staples into it methodically to create each character. He uses the dark paint of the paint board to crate negative space for shadowing and large dark areas on each character. The multi-colored staples he punches provide lighting, intrinsic details and depth that helps to capture the essence of each character.

Each character takes over six months to complete which is why the school teacher said if he were to sell them he would charge about $10,000 for each — which is a modest price considering the time and patience required for their creation.
