Los Angeles Clipper guard Jamal Crawford has been named the NBA’s 2013-14 NBA Sixth Man of the Year. Crawford won the award back in 2010 when he played for Atlanta Hawks. Winning the award puts the guard in rare company with him becoming the fourth player to win the award twice. Kevin McHale, Detlef Schrempf and Rick Pierce as the only two-time winners.
Crawford received 57 first place vote out of 125 possible vote and totaled 421 points in the voting. Coming in second place was Bulls forward Taj Gibson who finished with 49 first place vote and 395 points. This year’s race was filled with a number of reserves who helped contribute to their team’s success, however Crawford led all regular reserves in points per game with 18.6 this season.
Fun fact: about Craawford’s road to winning the award is he actually started more than a third of his games for the Clippers this season because of injuries to other teammates,. His role was still a reserve and in the last 15 years only three players have started a large number of games while but won the sixth man of the year award, those recipients were Lamar Odom, Bobby Jackson and Aaron McKie. Crawford was eligible for the award because he came off the bench in 45 games while only starting 24 games this year.
