kerrThe Golden State Warriors and the New York Knicks were both on the hunt to hire Steve Kerr as their new head coach after firing Mark Jackson and Mike Woodson.  Many assumed the Knicks were in the lead considering they were willing to spend more money and have Phil Jackson as their president.

In a stunning turn of events it turns out the Warriors were the one to snag Kerr.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Steve Kerr has agreed to a 5 year, approximately $25 million deal with Golden State.

The Warriors clearly have a better roster with Stephen Curry, Andre Iguodala and others but it’ll be a big job for Kerr as a first time head coach with big expectations surrounding him.  The Warriors vastly improved in two years under Jackson and will be expected to at least make it to the second round of the playoffs next year or even further.

It was expected the Knicks would definitely land Kerr and now that he is taken as well as Stan Van Gundy who is the new coach and president of basketball operations for the Detroit Pistons, it’ll be interesting to see what route the Knicks go next.
