Irina Shayk Poses topless for #BringBackOurGirls Campaign
In support of the safe return of the 276 Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by a group of Islamist militants called the Boko Haram, a number of celebrities have joined the campaign posting photos of themselves holding #BringBackOurGirls signs. Stars like Nicki Minaj to the First Lady Michelle Obama have all participated in efforts. However, when Sports Illustrated model Irina Shayk posted a photo of herself on Instagram holding the same sign, topless, she received quite some backlash from fans. With well over a thousand comments and climbing, people had very mixed feelings about her efforts. Many believed that posing topless took the attention away from the actual cause while others were happy for the support from another celeb.
“It’s sad that you even did this at all,” said one person. “This is disgusting,” said another. Some appreciated the thought behind it saying, “I know you probably have good intentions but you objectifying YOURSELF doesn’t help those girls.” Perhaps this wasn’t the best way possible to contribute.
