The Source Magazine caught up with songwriter Angela Hunte at the BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards, where she filled us in on her upcoming projects. She is currently working on writing for Jennifer Hudson’s new album and Raekwon’s new album. Check out what she had to say below.
Q: What upcoming projects can you share?
Hunte: I can share Raekwon’s project that’s getting ready to come out. It’s the F.I.L.A. International. I’m super excited about Raekwon because I think this album has stepped him up – not that he wasn’t in a league of his own, he absolutely was, but I think that this music is more… super-rounded and super-musical and I don’t think people have seen Raekwon in that musical light. So the songs are really big songs like stadium music. So I’m excited for people to see that.
I’m excited for people to see Jennifer Hudson and her new album that’s coming out. It’s crazy. It’s just she sounds amazing, she has life changing songs on her album this time around and I think people are going to kind of get to see her in a different light and kind of get to know her a lot more cause I think people who know her as Jennifer the actress, you know, Oscar winner, I think they need to get to know her more as Jennifer the artist, the recording artist. I think that this album is going do it, it’s gonna set her in the lane that I think she wants to be. So I’m excited about that.
Q: Tonight they’re honoring Birdman and Slim, tell me what makes them icons?
Hunte: What makes them icons is where they come from and the fact that I think a lot of people didn’t think they would come this far and then be able to succeed in what they do. And they have, and they’ve even surpassed people’s expectations. So I’m just happy to see an African American company like Cash Money just kill the naysayers and come out and actually just be successful. And I’m looking forward to seeing Birdman, I used to have such a crush. I’m a baby girl, I’m a baby girl. So I’m looking forward to seeing him spit some bars cause he’s my favorite. So I’m looking forward to this whole tribute to Cash Money.
