In a somewhat random but nonetheless positive development Chicago’s own Lupe Fiasco has been named the United State Mens Soccer Music Director.
Per MLS Soccer’s Website
Building on the “One Nation. One Team.” theme, Fiasco will collaborate with US Soccer in a variety of areas over the next six weeks. He will also create a public Spotify playlist and handle in-game music programming during the Send-Off Series.
They also go on to mention that this isn’t Lupe’s first dealing with soccer. In 2006 he performed his then first single “Kick, Push” during half time of an Major Leauge Soccer All Star game.
As part of his duties Lupe Fiasco – born Wasalu Jaco – will create Spotify playlists and handle in game music programming while the Send-Off Series is going on, his DJ group SNDCLSH will also assist in the project.
It’s really interesting that they would name someone like Lupe to this position considering how strongly he’s taken stances on certain topics in the past. I mean this is the same guy who came in the game on a mixtape called Farenheit 1/15 and once called President Obama a terrorist.
