Two days ago, Twitter found another cause to bring out their torches and pitchforks to correct a wrong that they saw. This time it came in the form of a Forbes article that was a profile of Iggy Azalea, an artist due for some recognition. However, it wasn’t so much the article that drew the inhabitants of social media’s ire, but what it implied. Titled “Hip Hop Is Run By A White, Blonde, Australian Woman,” the shocking headline was immediately met with confusion and anger from those in the rap community; so much so that we even had to weigh in, in an editorial written by our online editor Khari Nixon.
However, one of the parties directly mentioned in the story has finally spoken up about her thoughts on the whole situation. Nicki Minaj, who they said has been quiet for the past year, called into the Breakfast Club yesterday, when Charlemagne brought up the topic. She responded with only a few powerful words that should answer all questions.
Listen, all Forbes needs to worry about is my finances and when I’m going to be selling Myx Fusion for $250 million, that’s all they need to worry about. We rely on Hip Hop journalism and blogs for THAT kind of information. So we appreciate that, but no thank you.
Nicki doesn’t seem to concerned or fazed about the slight. You can check out the full interview below and we wish both artist good luck in their respective careers.
