Tom Thibodeau is one of the best coaches in the NBA. He’s known for being tough and getting the most out of his players. Those attributes along with a reported rift between him the Chicago Bulls front office has several teams knocking at his door and trying to lure him away.
Reports say however that there’s only one team that could get Thibodeau to jump ship, the New York Knicks.
via Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report:
“There’s only one place that Thibodeau would really push to go elsewhere, and that’s to go back to the New York Knicks,” Bucher said. “That, I’m told by one source, is actually his dream job, to go back and get the Knicks back on the map. But short of that, he realizes that no matter where he goes, the grass isn’t always greener.”
As much as Knicks fans would like to see this happen it could be unlikely. As far as the Knicks coaching search has gone so far, president of basketball operations, Phil Jackson has only been seeking out people he has a prior relationship with. Those people understand his fundamentals and are more likely to coach the team to his liking. Thibodeau however could be just what the Knicks need but there’s another snag. He has three seasons left on his contract and the Knicks don’t have much to offer. Thibs appears to be staying put for now but it’s definitely something to keep an eye on.
