Rev. Al Sharpton has revealed his intentions to turn the recent controversy surrounding Lil Wayne into a “teaching moment.”

The troubling controversy that has circled around Emmett Till’s Family, Lil Wayne and PepsiCo for the past couple months may just turn into a moment of enlightenment. Al Sharpton has revealed that he is in the works on bringing PepsiCo and Emmett Till’s family together to discuss what has transpired in regards to the controversy.

Al Sharpton has stated that his plans for the sit-down are to turn the situation into an educational moment for America and to sensitize corporate America. It has also been reported that the proposed meeting will take place today.

Al Sharpton’s statement made via National Action Network read, “I have been in conversations over the last several days with leadership at PepsiCo and the family of Emmett Till. This has been a ‘teaching moment’ for Lil Wayne, corporate America and the family of Emmett Till yet more than a condemnation of any one artist, it is an affirmation of Emmett Till and a call for more sensitivity about what we say and do in our culture. National Action Network does not want it to end with artists losing contracts but rather with a sensitizing of corporate America so we can learn from these experiences and set a tone that will help everybody.”

PepsiCo’s involvement surfaced when Till’s family threatened to go after Wayne’s sponsors after the YMCMB rapper failed to apologize for his lyrics in “Karate Chop,” resulting in the brand dissolving their relationship with Wayne.
