When you think of Toronto hip hop, your mind is probably flooded with glamorous images of the radio god formerly known as Drake or a dark, murky, slightly frightening mosaic composed out of cuts from The Weeknd‘s catalog. However, the Canadian city’s rapidly rising rap scene has a lot more to offer listeners. One of its newest gems is a rapper/producer who has been recording for quite sometime named Rich Kidd.
Rich Kidd has released a number of beat tapes and mixtapes in the last four years. Typically he produces majority of the songs on his mixtape-showcasing not only his talent behind the mic, but behind the boards as well. He has a very soulful vibe that can be compared to an early Black Milk. His rhymes are filled with interesting wordplay and complex lyrical content.
Today, the Source is proud to premiere his latest single: “Far From Rich.” Definitely an anthem for all those dream of living large while maintaining a budget. Production of the song was handled by Kidd and fellow Toronto producer, Lyve. It is a nice soulful track that he uses to display his lyrical prowess.
