Migraines affect about 14 million individuals daily according to the Migraine Research Foundation. They are responsible for American employers losing over $13 billion dollars annually as a result of lost work days. Migraines can be caused by certain foods or drinks, sleep deficiency, hormones etcetera. Migraines also tend to run in families. If one parent suffers from migraine, there is a 40% chance a child will suffer and if both parents suffer, the chance rises to 90%. During a migraine, other neurological symptoms occur before the actual head pain within 15 to 20% of migraine attacks. Attacks can usually last between 4 and 72 hours.
