The Utah Jazz named Quin Snyder their new head coach today. The move makes Snyder the Jazz’s eighth head coach in team history.

According to Yahoo Sports, Snyder agreed to a three-year guaranteed contract with a team option for a fourth season.

The opportunity to join the Utah Jazz and to be part of such a highly respected franchise with an incredibly bright future is a great honor,” said Snyder. “I approach this opportunity with gratitude and humility and am committed to doing everything I can to help the Jazz become a championship-caliber team.”

Snyder played point guard at Duke from 1985-1989 under Coach Mike Mike Krzyzewski. A career assistant coach and scout since the early 90s, Snyder spent time with the Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks and Philadelphia 76ers.

He spent last season in Russia as an assistant coach of CSKA Moscow.

“He is passionate about the game and has a 20-year track record of teaching and developing young talent,” said Jazz General Manager Dennis Lindsey.

“His personality, work ethic and communications skills are important traits that will benefit the Utah Jazz. We have taken a significant and exciting step forward in the evolution of this franchise.”
