It’s been a long time coming.
Wisconsin joins the other 26 states that have struck down gay marriage bans. U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabbs deemed the ban on same sex marriage unconstitutional stating ” Same-sex couples are entailed to the same treatment as heterosexual couples.”
In her ruling, Crabbs also mentioned that all federal judges debating state same-sex marriage bans agree on their unconstitutionality, especially after The Supreme Court’s ruling on U.S. v. Windsdor last summer.
Although the restriction on same-sex marriage has been decreed unconstitutional, Judge Crabbs did not elaborate on the legality of same-sex marriage, nor was there any discussion to do so.
Despite confusion, LGTB advocates rejoiced, and many clerks in Wisconsin plan to begin marrying same-sex couples immediately.
Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele stated “I have been waiting decades for this day to finally arrive and we won’t make loving couples wait longer than they want to get married”
