Presented by Tyler Perry “Peeples” stars Kerry Washington, Craig Robinson, David Alan Grier, S. Epatha Merkerson, Tyler James Williams, and Melvin Van Peebles. The film centers around Robinson’s character Wade Walker who is eager to propose to his girlfriend, Grace Peeples played by Washington. But after a year of living together, the beautiful, successful Grace is still cagey about introducing her “average guy” Wade to her ambitious, upper crust family. So when Grace leaves for an annual reunion at her parents’ swanky Sag Harbor compound, Wade decides to crash the gathering, charm his soon-to-be in-laws and slip a ring on Grace’s finger. However, Wade’s plans go hilariously awry when he meets the high-powered, seemingly picture-perfect family who’ll do whatever it takes to keep up appearances. Wade soon finds himself caught in a web of white lies and comic dysfunction, and realizes that his only hope of ever marrying Grace means a take-no-prisoners face-off with Judge Peeples played by Grier, Grace’s disapproving dad who won’t accept anything less than the very best for his favorite daughter.
Check out our exclusive interview with the star of the film with Kerry Washington as we discuss “Peeples,” that small hit TV show “Scandal,” and her Oscar winning movie “Djano Unchained.”
Q: Lets talk “Peeples”…You don’t often get to do comedy!
Kerry Washington: I really love doing it. I’ve been blessed to have worked with some of the greatest comedians of our time. Working along with Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy and the Wayans Brothers now Craig Robinson and David Alan Grier. I definitely have been blessed in the comedy world, but most of my career has been drama, so I’m always excited when I get the opportunity to exercise that funny bone.
Q: How hard was it to keep a straight face on set?
Kerry Washington: It was ridiculous (Laughs). It was like getting paid to go to comedy school. Just really really fun.
Q: You had the chance to perform on stage with your cast mates. What was that experience like?
Kerry Washington: I come from musical theatre, so it was really fun for me to have the opportunity to that again.
Q: Your character in the movie keeps a lot of secrets can you relate that to your character on “Scandal”?
Kerry Washington: (Laughs) Well its a little different, my character in “Peeples” isn’t trying to hide her past. Olivia’s job is to hide things.
Q: This week on scandal what can we expect?
Kerry Washington: OMG it’s so hard to even explain. You find so much out about all the different characters. I know even the other cast members have even had a hard time describing what it’s like. But in this episode you find so much out about all the different characters.
Q: Let’s talk “Djano Unchained”!
Kerry Washington: That was such an amazing experience. I would definitely work with Quentin again he’s just amazing.
