October 8th can’t get here sooner
Pusha T‘s debut album, My Name Is My Name, is hitting stores very soon, and with about 3 weeks to go, newly minted premiere rap blog The Stashed sat down exclusively with Pusha T at Def Jam Recordings and got an early listen of the LP. 10 confirmed tracks and their producers were revealed in their official album preview, along with anecdotes about the Young Jeezy, Rick Ross and Kendrick Lamar collaborations. The-Dream‘s influence was duly noted, and apparently, Kanye West executive produced the album Rick Rubin style, having a hand in tweaking and nurturing every single song on the album. We’d definitely prefer this over album snippets, so click through The Stashed’s album preview for Pusha T’s debut–which they’re already claiming is the best G.O.O.D. ON THE KENDRICK LAMAR-FEATURED “NOSE-TALGIA”
This is the absolute best song on the album. Two of raps finest go toe-to-toe about the drug life on opposite perspectives.
“We gave two perspectives [on the song]. [Kendrick Lamar] was giving more, looking from the inside of his home and how his family and his crusade through the drug epidemic affected him,” Pusha T explained to HipHopDX earlier this week. “I was giving you the junior high, high school start, showing you what it was and where I was at.”
That’s only the tip of the iceberg. While you know what you’re getting from Pusha T and his well documented past as a hustler in Virginia (where their ain’t shit to do but cook), K. Dot gives his verse from the prospective of the conversation with his father, telling his old man that “honestly, he fell off.”
It’s a rewind button-breaking record that is going to be chock full of “verse of the year” contenders in it. Before you ask, yes, this was record BEFORE “Control” came out. Still, this Nottz-produced record is something that you absolutely need to hear.
