Common

Common’s still here, and he’s got new music coming

Common‘s last album, the critically acclaimed The Dreamer, The Believer, on which he worked almost exclusively with No I.D., may not have performed as well commercially, but still proved to be one of 2011′s best efforts. Almost 2 years later, the Chicago vet, and rap legend, has returned to the studio, and let loose some details about his upcoming music in an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. Citing an inspiration from young Chi-town upstart Vince Staples, who, according to Com, made him “want to write”, the “Ghetto Dreams” rapper revealed that he’ll be releasing an EP “quick”, which most would assume to mean before the end of the year, seeing that he’s had plans, since September, to release a full-length album, the first since TDTB, in January of 2014. Check out an excerpt from his interview below, and read the full chat here.

I am writing a new album. It will be coming out in January, and I’m looking forward to that. My stuff will come at the top of the year, maybe some songs out there on the street level. I’m going to work with No I.D. and looking to hopefully work with Kanye [West] and that’s some of the major people I’ll be working with, and whatever other great talents that I feel are going that direction that I want the album to be.
