In an artist’s career, there are two shows that you look forward to: homecoming and your first New York City show. You get nervous to see how your hometown responds to your presence and any performer can relate to the panic of whether or not NYC will accept you. In Bas’ case, these two are one in the same. Last night as he winds down his Last Winter Tour, Dreamville’s new shining star took his talents to a sold out SOBs crowd. When we got to the venue, you could feel the anticipation in the culturally diverse crowd, 75% of which who were decked out in FIENDS merch.
There were good vibes all around and eventually amidst the “We want Bas!” chants, the opener, Bryant Dope, hit the stage and not too much later, you heard the beat for “N*gga On The Dos Equis, The Most Interesting Man In The World” and the man of the hour hit the stage. Bas went through his recent catalogue, performing just about every cut off his Last Winter album beginning with “NWO,” “Figi Water In My Iron,” and “Donk Of The Day.” He also spoke to the crowd giving himself a formal introduction leading into “Cousins,” (featuring J. Cole) which is arguably the song that helps catch some of the attention he now has. Speaking of his label mate, J. Cole, Bas performed their other collabs “My N*gga Just Made Bail” & “Lit”, bringing fans on stage to perform Cole’s verses (shout out to the young lady who knew the verse for “Made Bail” in FULL).
Another heartwarming moment was when Bas shouted his mom, who was live and direct in the front row. She later came on stage with the rest of the FIENDS for a little while to greet the crowd who’ve been singing her sons lyrics from beginning to end of his set.
He closed out the show performing “I Aint The One” off of last years Quarter Water Raised Me Vol 2 and summoned a turn up for “Mook In New Mexico.” After thanking the crowd numerous times, he jumped down into the crowd and embraced his junior fiends taking photos and signing CDs & more.
There are only two nights of the Last Winter Tour left so if you’re in Atlanta or Chicago try to catch a show if you can!
Be alert.
