Hip-Hop Summit Youth Council and Power 105.1 Launch Hip-Hop Against Gun & Gang Violence Project with support from the NY Mets and 50 Cent Concert Tickets.

7 E’s 4 Power Tour will visit 70 NYCHA Community Centers, Schools and Prisons to Address Gun & Gang Violence.

We are one week away from the official start of summer, June 21, 2014, and we have to be ready to take a proactive approach to end gun and gang violence.  June has been declared “Gun Violence Awareness Month” in NYC and throughout the State of New York (http://open.nysenate.gov/legislation/bill/K1268-2013).  There has been a host of stabbings and shootings that has caused much grief to many, but we can’t give up on our fight to put an end to gun and gang violence.  To make this happen we need everyone’s support.  You can sign our petition (http://hhsyc.org/haggv2014/haggvpetition.html), attend our events, or submit your ideas on how we can improve public safety.  Below is a press release reporting on some of the events and activities that took place during the first 4 weeks of the Hip-Hop Against Gun & Gang Violence Project with much more to come.  Also check out http://www.power1051fm.com/pages/events/hhsyc.

New York, NY June 14, 2014—In an effort to reduce gun and gang violence in New York City Public Housing Developments and throughout the State of New York the Hip-Hop Summit Youth Council (HHSYC) and their Hip-Hop Against Gun & Gang Violence Project, with Power 105.1, the Department of Youth & Community Development, NYCHA, Microsoft, “The Shark” Daymond John, Metro PCS, and the Source Magazine joined forces to launch the 7 E’s 4 Power Tour created to improve public safety in schools, NYCHA Developments and High Crime Districts throughout the state of New York with a host of initiatives lead by the Solution Summits to End Gun & Gang Violence Series.

May 16-22, 2014 was declared Hip-Hop Against Gun & Gang Violence Week throughout the state of New York with Proclamations and Resolutions being presented to the HHSYC from Governor Cuomo, the NYS Senate and Assembly, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, NYC Council, Nassau and Suffolk County Executives Edward Mangano and Steve Bellone.  The 7 E’s 4 Power Tour will offer 105 Power Events over 105 Power days ending Labor Day 2014.  Through the support of Power 105.1 there will be media and artist support, prizes, tickets to sports and entertainment events, perks, street team support, and other opportunities to help ensure the success of the tour.

Microsoft and Metro PCS will help bridge the “Digital Divide” by providing software and training to housing resident participants.  “The Shark” Daymond John will provide training and opportunities for those that are looking to start their own business and/or learn how to become a successful entrepreneur.  You can’t ask criminals, gang members, and/or drug dealers to give up a life of crime without offering them an alternative if you are serious about solving the problem.

To improve public safety in the state of New York and throughout NYCHA it will take new and innovative ideas that can grab the attention of the youth and help them better understand what they need to do to take back responsibility and become more proactive towards ending gun and gang violence in their school, home and community.  For today’s youth and young adults Hip-Hop is a lifestyle they respect and if used like the pioneers who founded the culture over 40 years ago will give us a platform to motivate young citizens to help make this a safer state.

Said Charles Fisher, Founder of the HHSYC, “As we approach another hot summer, a period when gun and gang violence spikes, it is important that we teach our youth and young adults how to take back their community.  I’m not afraid to admit we failed generations Y & Z, but we now have an opportunity to empower them with the skills and resources that will help them succeed in life.  I am looking forward to working with all the elected officials that presented us with a Proclamation or Resolution, as well as Power 105.1, who has showed us an unbelievable level of support to improve public safety that sets them apart from the rest of corporate America.  After 36 years in the social service business I have seen it all and I have to take my hat off to Power 105.1 for being a shining example of how real business leaders go beyond the call of duty to end gun and gang violence.”

“At Power 105.1 we are committed to using our resources to play a more socially responsible role when it comes to ending gun and gang violence.  It gives us great joy to work with the Hip-Hop Summit Youth Council and be a sponsor of their Hip-Hop Against Gun & Gang Violence initiative because we are here to make a difference in the lives of our children and will do whatever it takes to keep our communities safe,” ended GeeSpin, Assistant Program Director/Music Director, Power 105.1 FM.

“At Power 105.1 we have an obligation to work with community groups who are focused on ending the violence and through this project we are committed to make this a safer summer because it’s the right thing to do and we have the influence to make a difference when it comes to protecting the lives of our youth,” stated Joe De Angelis, Director of Promotions, Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, NYC.

“Making NYCHA safer is a priority and working with the Hip-Hop Against Gun & Gang Violence Project gives us a way and opportunity to use the influence of Hip-Hop to inspire young residents to be a part of the solution and not the problem,” ended Assistant Commissioner Darryl Rattray, Dept. of Youth and Community Development.

Stated “The Shark” Daymond John, “Education and economic empowerment are the essential tools that our young people need to lift themselves out of crime and poverty.  I’m looking forward to working with NYCHA residents and citizens living in poor and disadvantaged communities who are looking for economic opportunities to achieve the American Dream because this is how we truly end gun and gang violence.”

“We are looking forward to working with elected officials who have NYCHA Developments in their community. It is our intent to bring resources from the private sector to help each of the 70 centers we will partner with better service the needs of the citizens with a focus on the youth and young adult population who are more prone to gun and gang violence.  I want to especially thank Power 105.1, GeeSpin, and Joe De Angelis for stepping up to the plate as socially responsible citizens and using their resources and influence to help end gun and gang violence in a major way,” ended Randy Fisher, Executive Director, HHSYC.

“Thank you so much for the wonderful program presentation for the students of Roosevelt High School.  They loved all of the positive words of expression and appreciated the books and tickets to the Mets game and 50 Cent concert.  Your organization truly represents Youth Empowerment and we would love to continue to promote your cause and be a part of this initiative to end gun and gang violence,” stated Natalie Gary, Director, National Events Organization.

The kick off of the NYCHA segment of the tour just happened to be in the Bronx, the Borough where Hip-Hop was founded.  “The event went really well and was truly enjoyed by all the young people in attendance.  With so many shootings taking place in these developments this is exactly what our youth need to stay off the street corners and out of trouble.  I’m excited about this partnership and look forward to doing more events to keep our community free from gun violence and crime,” ended Keimisa Larrier, Director, Eastchester Community Center.

Thanks to the 7 E’s 4 Power Tour, Power 105.1, the NY Mets and 50 Cent, winning participants from the Eastchester Housing Development, Roosevelt High School, and other sites will see 50 Cent rock the house right after the Mets vs. Padres game.  This will be a historic day as Baseball and Hip-Hop join forces to provide a “Power Packing Double Header” offering a memorable experience for those in attendance.  To date some of the other schools visited by the tour include: MS 42, PS 246, PS 18 and PS 74.  For project and tour information as well as a chance to win tickets to the game, concert on 6/14/14 and other events hit us up at: RandyKFisher@gmail.com.
