Uh-oh lottery pick Joel Embiid fractures his foot right before the NBA Draft
Big man Joel Embiid was considered a top pick in the upcoming draft, but it’s now reported that the big man will be undergoing surgery due to a stress fracture in his right foot (ouch). Strongly considered a number 1 pick in this year’s draft, it is without question this will take a great hit in his draft stock.
According to his agent:
“Joel Embiid suffered a stress fracture to the navicular bone in his right foot,” Arn Tellem said. “He is scheduled to have surgery tomorrow. Joel will be unable to participate in any additional workouts, and will not attend the draft in New York. We will have no further comment until after the surgery.”
Now, Joel Embiid isn’t new to injury reports, earlier this year the big man suffered back issues that held him from competing in the BIG 12 and NCAA tournaments. With Embiid facing a slip in this year’s draft, the other two prospects in Duke’s Jabari Parker and Kansas’s Andrew Wiggins could be fighting for that top spot. Cleveland has the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft so it will be interesting to see what they do with it considering the breaking news about Joel Embiid.
