Top Dawg Entertainment have been fairly busy lately. The West Coast imprint announced a new rapper, Chattanooga, TN emcee Isaiah Rashad, was added to the label’s roster.
After signing electro-soul singer SZA, TDE adds a rapper to the roster
After the meteoric rise of Kendrick Lamar, whose debut album good kid, m.A.A.D. city was recently certified platinum by the RIAA, and Black Hippy‘s ascent to the comfortable position of quite possibly being the most talented rap crew in the game, Punch, Dave Free and Top Dawg decided it was time to add another talent on the mic to the payroll. Cue in Isaiah Rashad, hailing from the less-frequented streets of Chattanooga, Tennessee, who was rumored to be the new official signee a few months ago after Kendrick made an announcement that his label had two new artists to boast. While SZA is certainly more well known for the time being, a lot of eyes will be on Isaiah Rashad for, as a rapper, he’ll automatically be judged against his predecessors, Kendrick, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul and Jay Rock.
Expect to see this new track, “I Shot You Down” on his forthcoming project, which is still untitled and lacking a release date. Between the new kid from Tennessee and the aforementioned Brooklyn singer, expect a lot of new music in the near future from the Top Dawg.
