Andrew Wiggins was selected first by the Cleveland Cavaliers in these evenings NBA Draft. The 6’8 guard out of Kansas that averaged 17.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in his lone freshman season as a Kansas Jayhawk, is excited to be headed to Cleveland.
He also believes that his one and done season at Kansas prepared him for the next level in the NBA: “I think college really prepares you for a level like this,” said Wiggins after being selected by the Cavs. “Especially a big time school like a Kansas or a Duke or a Kentucky where you’re under the spotlight,” he said.
“You’re basically treated like a rock star on campus or wherever you go.”
Speaking of the rockstar life, Wiggins’ draft day attire was unique—nothing seen before in a draft. Did you check out his blazer pictured above? “We just really wanted to do something different and stand out,” Wiggins told The Source.
With Wiggins being selected by the Cavaliers, he adds to a slew of talent on a young team. All Star point guard Kyrie Irving, Dion Waiters and Tristan Thompson have been mainstays on that team the last couple of years. Miami Heat superstar LeBron James has been rumored for years to return to his hometown Cavs.
The possibility could be more realistic with James opting out of the last two years of his contract, becoming an unrestricted free agent. Wiggins didn’t shy away when asked about the possibility of playing with James. “I want to win,” said Wiggins.
“If he wants to win we’ll be good together.”
