Racism isn’t just spitting in someone’s face or yelling ignorant names because of someone’s skin color. It’s also stopping someone from advancing him or herself in life or disrespecting that person without even knowing him or her. Now racism has a well dressed, yet just as ugly, cousin–classism. If you peel away all of the blind rage in Kanye’s rants, there is still the truth in his claim that classism is the new racism. But let’s not forget that racism is alive and well. Two Chicago emcees have combined their sentiments on both topics in the single, “Treat Me.” Mick Jenkins and Hurt Everybody‘s Supa Bwe air their frustration when it comes to the lack of benefits they enjoy for the simple fact of the skin color that they were born with. And if you think they’re a overdoing it, they’d probably reply just like Kanye: “Really!? Me!? Too aggressive!?”
“Treat Me” will be on Hurt Everybody’s self titled EP which drops on July 4th. Expect more truth from Mick on The Water[s] this summer.
