As much as we all love to blast our favorite J. Cole or Rihanna record in the car, nothing beats a live orchestra composed of artists pouring their emotions into a new interpretation, led by a creative conductor and composer. Proof: BKLYN1834 and Sly5thAve’s NOISECHAMBER VOL. 1 EP. The art community collaborated with the Austin native, Sly5thAve, who came to Brooklyn, saxophone in hand, to arrange four cover pieces and record them with The ClubCasa Chamber Orchestra (CCCO). Not surprisingly, the Jazz musician who was already Hip Hop oriented, had already been arranging and recording covers of “Suit And Tie” and “B*tch Don’t Kill My Vibe.” It was an improvement for Sly, who was working out of his basement apartment, to be recording in Bushwick’s Room 17 Studio, an independent space run by Joe Rogers.
So with a 23 piece orchestra and help from some friends, Sly5thAve gifts us with a fresh breath of air for some of our favorite songs.
Stream the EP below and watch the video below that to see a piece of the recording process.
Bryan Hahn used to play the trumpet in his Jazz band and regrets not keeping up with it to be in bands like this. At least he’s on Twitter (@notupstate). I guess.
