If you have ever had  your luggage lost by an airline you know what a frustrating ordeal it can be. IF they do find your luggage, it could take hours or days to just find out where it is. But more than likely, your luggage is lost forever.

European aircraft manufacturer Airbus recently unveiled the “Bag2Go,” a so-called “smart bag” complete with GPS, RFID and 2G mobile data capabilities. The Bag2Go can even sync up with your iPhone, letting you track your bag’s progress as it’s loaded onto your flight.

The ultimate plan is to for the luggage to work with airlines’ IT systems, contacting the carriers directly and arranging for delivery to your home or hotel.

These products are still in the developmental stage and will need approval from federal regulators, but they’re sure to find some grateful customers. Airbus expects it to cost around 20 per cent more than a conventional suitcase. U.S. airlines mishandled over 141,000 bags in April, according to government statistics, or about three bags for every 1,000 passengers.
