When the clock strikes 12:01 AM on July 10—a little under six hours away—NBA free agents will officially be able to sign with teams of their choosing.

Earlier today, New York Daily News’ Frank Isola reported that Carmelo Anthony will resign with the Knicks tomorrow. Anthony has visited the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks to see how they’re culture runs and if he sees them in their future.

According to ESPN, sources have told them that a number of rival teams increasingly believe that Anthony was holding off on announcing any decision about his future until fellow free agent, LeBron James reveals where he’ll be going. Within the last hour, Anthony’s agent, Leon Rose indicated that his client is still undecided on his future despite contrary reports.

What can anyone go by? Well, if you’ve listened to anything that Carmelo has said out of his own mouth, he’s often said that he’d like to stay in the Big Apple.

Last summer Anthony told a room full of kids at his ProCamps basketball camp at Queens College that he wanted to stay: “I’ve been in the NBA ten years and time is flying,” said Anthony. “And it seems like it was yesterday. My window is closing, so I’m trying to get this championship to New York ASAP.”

Admittedly, a lot has transpired since that camp last summer. The Knicks were eliminated by the Indiana Pacers in last year’s NBA playoffs shortly after he hosted that camp. This season, the Knicks went 37-45 and didn’t make the NBA Playoffs. Head Coach, Mike Woodson was fired, Phil Jackson was hired and Derek Fisher became the new head coach on the job.

According to the New York Post’s Marc Berman Melo is reportedly hoping Phil Jackson can move the contracts of Amar’e Stoudemire and Andrea Barganani and others in hope of signing LeBron James to a big deal. Stoudemire is reportedly being shopped to the Philadelphia 76ers.
