Week 4 is almost in the books as we wait tonight’s Monday night match up of the Dolphins & Saints. Although this Sunday we received confirmation that the worst football is being played in New York/New Jersey.

The New York Giants staggered into Arrowhead Stadium to face the 3-0 Kansas City Chiefs. New York is trying to rewrite its season starting 0-3 for the first time since 1996, but the Chiefs were not having any of it. Dexter McCluster added a highlight reel punt return in the 2nd half, while Giants coach Tom Coughlin watched his offense flutter en route to a 31-7 beating. Coach Coughlin said after the game “Play calling is like throwing a dart at a board.”

To continue this trend of bad football from New York teams, the Jets traveled to Tennessee in a match up that sort of favored gang green. Roc Nation/Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith was beat up and made a lot of rookie mistakes. While the Titans looked great on defense, pressure on the quarterback and play making from their offense. The Jets fell 38-7 now 2-2 while the Titans improve to 3-1, but lose starting quarterback Jake Locker to a hip injury. At the very least they have a win to show for it.

All week the word around the league has been the benching of QB Josh Freeman and the promotion to starter of rookie Mike Glennon for the Tampa Bay Bucs. Coach Schiano took matters into his own hands as they still look for their first win against the Arizona Cardinals at home. For the most part Tampa looked like it had the game in the bag until the final minutes where a rookie mistake by Glennon lead to an interception by Patrick Peterson which led to an easy touchdown to Larry Fitzgerald. Cardinals improve to 2-2 with hope while the Buccaneers ship is sinking and sinking fast at 0-4.

Slugfest of the day had to the Detroit Lions at home against rival Chicago Bears. The Lions jumped to an early 30-7 lead with help from Reggie Bush who had 176 total yards from scrimmage. Chicago did manage to make it a game at the end with a breakout game from Alshon Jeffrey, but in the end it wasn’t enough and they fell back too many points early to matter. Detroit is now tied a top the NFC North with Chicago at 3-1 respectively.

It wasn’t much of a contest in Jacksonville as the Colts travel to face the winless Jaguars. The Colts offense did get off to a slow start, but eventually found the grove. Being led by QB Andrew Luck, Reggie Wayne & Colby Fleener each chipped in with a touchdown. Jacksonville had a slew of problems, they had running back Maurice Jones Drew ineffective the whole afternoon and do have Justin Blackmon coming back next week, but without a quarterback who cares? TIm Tebow anyone?

In a surprise that probably messed up a lot of weekends in Vegas and Atlantic City, the Buffalo Bills hosted the defending champion Ravens. The Ravens got back superstar Ray Rice after missing last weeks game with a hip injury, but wasn’t much of a factor. Joe Flacco threw 5 interceptions in his best Mark Sanchez impression. The BIlls on the other hand looked surprisingly sharp being led by rookies E.J Manuel & Robert Woods. Bills improve to 2-2 while the Ravens go to 2-2 in a 3 way tie early in the year a top of the AFC North.

You lost your starting quarterback due to injury, you trade away your best offensive weapon, you win 2 games in a row. If your a Cleveland Browns fan you’ll take it. The Browns took on the Cincinnati Bengals in the first bout in the battle of Ohio. The Cleveland defense looked solid all day as they were putting pressure on Andy Dalton and cornerback Joe Haden took it on himself to shut down Cincy weapon AJ Green. The Bengals looked out of sync all day while Cleveland keeps thriving after being accused of tanking the season are now 2-2 and looking good. Although I’ll still take the Bengals to win this division it didn’t matter on Sunday.

Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks flew down to Houston to take on the Texans. In an important match up for Houston they jumped up to a 2 score lead for the majority of the game until Russell Wilson woke up. Fourth quarter started and SEattle was a different team being led by their QB Wilson, scrambling his way to first down to open throws. Seattle came back and showed why many view it was the NFL’s best team. Houston fans let the team know how it felt as it showered QB Matt Schaub with boos after throwing a costly pick six to CB Richard Sherman. Seattle stays undefeated at 4-0 while Houston falls to 2-2, is it too early for panic mode in Houston?

In whats becoming a tradition in the NFL, the Pittsburgh Steelers face the Minnesota Vikings in Wimbley Stadium in London(Yes that London). The Steelers are in unfamiliar territory starting at 0-3 trying to fight off losing its first 4. ALthough the VIkings had different ideas. Matt Cassel got his first start of the season for the Vikings at quarterback and immediately found a connection with Greg Jennings on a 70 yd strike. Big plays from super athletes is a common thing for the Vikings as reigning MVP Adrian Peterson ran in a touchdown as well. Steelers defense looked old while the offensive line paid to protect Big Ben looked sluggish. Not where the Steelers want to be to start the year, but if theres any team who can weather the storm its definitely them. Vikings get its first win of the year (1-3) who aren’t much better, but showed life with a new signal caller.

RG3 and Washington went to the Blackhole in Oakland to take on the Raiders. The Redskins needed this win as they also feared a 0-4 start. Oakland on the other hand was starting back up quarterback Matt Flynn as starter Terrell Pryor is battling concussion symptoms. RG3 looked sharper as he’s regaining confidence in his repaired right knee while Oakland showed flashes, but fall to 1-3 as they couldn’t make up for the loss of their quarterback. Oakland also lost running back Darren McFadden as he’s injured yet again.

San Diego Chargers are just trying to keep pace with its division against the Dallas Cowboys. In what was a beautiful day in San Diego it ended up being a beautiful day for the Chargers too. Antonio Gates turned back the clock catching 10 balls, last time he caught that many was in 2007. The Dallas defense was great being led by Sean Lee who had 15 tackles and interception return for a touchdown. But in the end it wasn’t enough as the Chargers improve to 2-2 are now 3rd in the division while the Cowboys fall to 2-2 and are a top of their division. See how this game works?

History, legendary, touchdowns. Those are just a few words used when describing Peyton Manning and the Broncos. The Broncos ROMP the Philadelphia Eagles 52-20. The Broncos have scored 179 points through 4 games, the most points through 4 games EVER. Manning has thrown 16 touchdowns through 4 games, also the most EVER. The Eagles showed some fight but the end it wasn’t enough, making one wonder are we looking at the Super Bowl favorites already in week 4. The Broncos defense added a touchdown late in the game as sort of a final nail in the coffin. Broncos are now 4-0 while the Eagles are 1-3 but still in good standing in the weak NFC East.

Wrapping up Sunday was the primetime game pitting the New England Patriots and Tom Brady against the Atlanta Falcons. This would’ve been a statement game for the Falcons who always seem to be in the Super Bowl conversation, but somehow fall short every time. The Falcons were led by veteran Tony Gonzalez who hauled in 12 receptions and a pair of touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough as Tom Brady and the Pats showed their caliber. Matt Ryan missed a few easy opportunities to take control of the game in the red zone, missing Roddy White on fourth and 2 from the 7 yard line. It wasn’t all good news for the Patriots as they in all likelihood lost nose tackle Vince Wilfork for the season with a torn right achilles tendon. Patriots stay undefeated at 4-0 while the Falcons are risking missing the playoffs after a lot of Super Bowl talk in the pre season falling to 1-3.

Another great Sunday! Looking forward to this Monday night as the season keeps taking shape. RC OUT!
