A Deputy Chief and Officer of Fruitland Park Police Department found linked to Ku Klux Klan

Two Fruitland Park Police Officials were found linked to the Ku Klux Klan in law enforcement reports according to city manager Gary La Venia.

Deputy Chief David Borst and officer George Hunnewell were found linked to the KKK in a law enforcement investigation.  Borst subsequently resigned as deputy chief and Hunnewell was fired over the past week.

La Venia reported to the Associated Press that the small town of Fruitland Park, just outside of Orlando, has been completely shocked by the alleged ties.  The accusations came to light last week in reports from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement based on information from the FBI.  It still remains unclear what the FBI was investigating in particular.

While Borst’s position was primarily administrative and did not have him out and about among citizens, both cases of the officers at hand are being reviewed by the State Attorney’s Office.
