“Give the drummer some, in this case I guess that’s me.”  Vic Mensa references Ultramagnetic MC’s “Give the Drummer Some” here, but he also slyly applauds his drumming skills, which is an important facet of INNANETAPE. It’s the rare internet tape by a 20 year old that sounds fully realized with lush instrumentation. It’s the kind of sound most rappers only get when backed by The Roots on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. This is Vic’s first project since his own band, Kid These Days, broke up and it comes of the heels of his killer Acid Rap feature on “Cocoa Butter Kisses.” Let’s take a look at INNANETAPE tape through the lens of its internet references.
