After a grueling season of training, a group of well coached 9 and 10 year old’s have earned the distinction of qualifying to compete in the USATF National Track and Field Championships held in Humbel, TX from July 21st until July 27

This team of young champions have learned sportsmanship, cooperation, teamwork, and achieved many victories filled with gold, silver, and bronze medals. Now the hard work is paying off because they have made it to the National Track and Field championship. Due to unforeseen circumstances, they are without any financial support from their home city of Hackensack, NJ! They are a local, community-based recreational center team, who has to compete against many well supported track and field clubs from all over the state, region, and now, the nation. In spite of tremendous odds against them qualifying, they did it! The Jr. Comets club team was formed to encourage youths (ages 7-14) to get involved in the sport of track and field.

It is a non-profit organization, run through the Hackensack Recreation Department, which is an affiliate of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), and a member of USA Track and Field (USATF) organizations. The organization is a traveling club, which allows the athletes to compete in multiple meets to help their individual skill levels.

This team of talented youth have represented their clubs respectfully and with grace, and now it’s time to go to the national stage, and they need adult support. We cannot allow for their dreams to be crushed or for all of their efforts to go to naught. The Jr. Comets is currently requesting any monetary support that can be offered. Expenses for traveling, lodging, and food has yet to be fulfilled and they deserve to have their chance to compete on a nationally, televised stage, because they earned it!

The Jr. Comets are asking that you (the reader) and their respective communities help to raise funds so that these children are comfortable enough to do their very best at Nationals. Donations can be made through Paypal to kasallday@gmail.com. The parents and coaches of the 2014 State and Region 2 Champion Hackensack Junior Comets would like to thank-you for all of your support in advance.
