We got the chance to sit down with radio personality Sarah Vivan as she opened up to us on her family life, her radio career, and transitioning from Cincinnati to Atlanta.
Check our our exclusive interview below:
Who inspired you to do radio?
Sarah Vivian: Honestly, it was a friend of mine and one day we were just talking. My original career choice was styling and I went to school for it. As I got into it, I realized that I wasn’t passionate about it anymore. My friend was sitting at Target with me and she was like “you need to try radio because you like to talk, you have a lot to say, and it might be fun.” When I research it, I went to a broadcast course and I just fell in love with it.
Who is your favorite person that you like to interview on the radio?
S.V.: Probably Rick Ross, he was a lot of fun. Hep kept it real and the questions we were asking him he was honest with. At the time, him and Young Jeezy had just squashed their beef and he was very honest about that situation.
Has Wayne supported your radio career?
S.V.: Yeah, he always been very supportive of things I’m interested in.
Who was your least favorite person to interview?
S.V.: I remember the interview with Karlie Redd. It was around the time during the grand opening of Stevie J & Benzino’s restaurant, where a fight broke out. I called and asked her if she wanted to do an interview about the fight and she asked if she could bring Joc & other people that was involved. When she came to the station to talk, I asked her about the fight and she was like I wasn’t involved in a fight. That interview was frustrating, but it’s okay.
Coming from Cincinnati to Atlanta what was the transition like?
S.V.: Obviously, it’s totally different and in Cincinnati there aren’t that many celebrities that you get the chance to see except for the Bengals players, who are the closest thing to a celebrity. The positive about Atlanta is that it’s easy to network and you could get more opportunities.
Have your kids been to the radio station?
S.V.: I actually took them with me and usually my sister watches them but she couldn’t. It’s a easy environment to bring them. They love to see mommy work and they love to play with the mic. When it comes on they get shy.
Since Angie Martinez is no longer at Hot 97, would you consider working for the station one day?
S.V.: I would be totally open to that. I mean it’s Angie Martinez. I would be open for the opportunity to do it one day.
