The end is near…ish.

If you’re wondering how the final season of FX’s Sons of Anarchy‘s will conclude, you’re not alone — so is the show’s creator Kurt Sutter. He weighed in on the fate of the motorcycle club at the Television Critic’s Association yesterday, disclosing that he’s actually still in the process of closing the series and behind in his writing.

“Considering I’m a week-and-a-half behind writing episode 7, it could all change. I’ve always had a sense of where I wanted it to go, and I come in each season with a blueprint with the big arcs and mile markers. And I’ve learned over seven seasons the looser I grip that idea the better the seasons are. And this season isn’t any different. I came in with how I wanted the season to end … but things change. It’s always been heading in the same direction, but the way I’m getting there continues to change.”

So far we do know that Marilyn Manson will join the cast in the final season as a white supremacist as seen via his Twitter, and Courtney Love will also have a role. The final season will also pick up 10 days after the end of season 6, with Jax in prison looking to avenge the death of Tara.

Sutter also mentioned, as he had before, the potential for a prequel season for the series, featuring the founding members of the SAMCRO — “The First 9″. Ideally, Sutter explained, the prequel will be a single season consisting of 10 episodes and will likely come out quite a while following the conclusion of the series.

The 7th and final season of Sons of Anarchy premieres September 9 on FX.
